Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda limited editions pay homage to the MC12

Each special edition will be produced in a limited series of 20 copies. Discover how these two new versions of the Italian supercar celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic MC12, drawing inspiration from its road and racing versions.

The MC20 Icona, a nod to the MC12 Stradale

The Maserati MC20 Icona sports a blue and white livery which echoes the colors of the original MC12 Stradale. The upper part of the bodywork is painted in Icona Bianco Audace Mat, contrasting with the Blu Stradale stripes on the lower section. The Trident-inspired rims are chrome and the brake calipers are blue. Maserati also added an Italian flag just below the MC20 lettering on the profile, a carbon fiber engine cover and auto-dimming mirrors.

The MC20 Leggenda, a tribute to the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone

The Maserati MC20 Leggenda pays homage to the MC12 GT1 of the Vitaphone Racing team. The latter is important for the brand, as it has achieved three victories and two second places at the 24 Hours of Spa (out of the MC12's 27 total victories in the FIA โ€‹โ€‹GT Championships). The modern reinterpretation combines Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Mat shades with striking yellow accents. The rims combine two shades of black (Nero Lucido and Nero Opaco) with touches of Digital Mint, while the brake calipers are black.

A personalized interior by the Fuoriserie program

The interior of the special editions also benefits from the Fuoriserie treatment. The equipment is generous, including monocoque bucket seats, a Sonus Faber audio system, more driving aids (ADAS), a nose lift function and the carbon pack. The Icona features Nero/Blu upholstery, while the Leggenda opts for a darker Nero configuration. Each series has its name embroidered on the headrests and a special badge on the engine cover.

No mechanical changes, but guaranteed exclusivity

Maserati has not announced any performance improvements for the Icona and Leggenda models over the standard MC20, meaning the differences are purely cosmetic. The price of these special editions has not been communicated, and it is unknown how many copies have already found buyers.

Despite their differences in character and positioning, the 2004 Maserati MC12 has always been touted as a source of inspiration for the 2020 Maserati MC20. The two supercars share a mid-engine architecture, a carbon fiber body shell and identical power output. of 621 hp. However, the MC20 delivers them thanks to a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, while the MC12 was equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 of Ferrari origin.

Beyond its more exotic design by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the MC12 was also much more exclusive than the MC20, with only 50 examples produced for the Stradale road version. The Icona and Leggenda limited editions allow the MC20 to reconnect with this spirit of exclusivity, while celebrating the heritage of its illustrious predecessor.
