The downside is that if you really want to see it (like the rest of us), you'll still have to wait a while.

More and more films and series about motorsport legends

For years, fans of motorsport and Formula 1 have been spoiled, as it is increasingly common for films and series about the great legends of motorsport to arrive on the big screenโ€ฆ or on the small screen, if the we consider releases on platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Apple, Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton working on F1 feature film

If you follow the world of motorsport, you know that Apple, Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton have been working for several years, with the approval of F1, on the filming of a feature film on the premier category. The โ€œblessingโ€ of the championship was such that they allowed the actors of the film to shoot on the circuits with F2 cars (which simulated F1 cars) during GP weekends.

The film will have as its protagonist a former racing driver who returns to the sport after several years of retirement (played by Brad Pitt), in a team called APXGP โ€“ the eleventh member of the grid โ€“ where he will have a young hopeful (played by XX) as a teammate.

A renowned cast and production team

The cast also includes Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones, The Crown), Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon (Roma), among others.

The film was directed by renowned director Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. Among the works that support the team are recognized hit films, such as Top Gun: Maverick or the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, who admitted years ago to turning down a role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” is involved in the film's production through his company, Dawn Apollo Films. His presence would also have been essential in serving as a mediator between F1 leaders and teams.

Release date scheduled for June 25, 2025

Formula 1 and Apple Original have announced that the film starring Brad Pitt, whose name has not yet been officially announced, although it is said to be titled “APEX”, will be released internationally in theaters on June 25, 2025, with the exception of North America, where it will be released on the 27th. That is to say in a year.

The film crew for the film, described by F1 as “an important milestone for sport and cinema”, were already seen last year on various world championship circuits, where they filmed ” in real timeโ€ during Grand Prix weekends, when none of the categories were on track.

This season, filming will continue at the British Grand Prix and other championship races, before concluding alongside the 2024 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.

This film arrives at a time when audiovisual content on the world of motorsport is more present than ever in cinema and on audiovisual platforms, after the release in recent years of Le Mans 66, Ferrari or the Drive to Survive series.

Formula 1 fans can therefore look forward to this new high-level film production, which promises to immerse the viewer at the heart of the exhilarating and competitive world of the premier category of motorsport. See you in a year to discover the result of this unprecedented collaboration between F1, Apple and Brad Pitt!
