Koenigsegg orders Jesko owners to stop driving their supercar after one catches fire

Owners of the Koenigsegg Jesko, a $3 million supercar, have been ordered to stop driving their car until further notice. The reason ? The Swedish manufacturer is trying to understand why one of these vehicles caught fire in Greece this weekend.

A mysterious fire in Greece

On Saturday morning, a video showing a Jesko (not the one pictured above) engulfed in flames on the side of the road near the town of Marousi began circulating online. The vehicle, which was taking part in the Six2Six Europe Tour supercar rally, was reportedly traveling at low speed (although some conflicting reports claim it was being driven aggressively) when the fire broke out. The driver and his passenger were able to escape without injury, but the car was not so lucky. When emergency crews put out the fire, the only identifiable parts of the Jesko that remained were its tires.

Koenigsegg orders Jesko to stop driving

Following this incident, Koenigsegg issued a Do Not Drive Order (DNDO) to owners of its flagship model. The order, sent by email, informed them of what had happened and asked them not to drive the vehicle until the source of the fire could be determined.

Here is an excerpt from the email sent by Koenigsegg:

As a precaution, we are asking all Jesko owners and drivers to refrain from driving their cars until we have had a chance to better understand the situation.

A painful loss for the owner

We can imagine that the owner of the Jesko, an unidentified Spaniard, is happy to have escaped this frightening incident unhurt, as is his passenger. However, he also has to suffer from the loss of his supercar. Egg Directory identifies the example as the Jesko NรœR Edition, a bespoke creation sporting an exposed carbon fiber finish that adds $443,400 to the hypercar's already astronomical price tag. To make matters worse, the owner had only taken possession of the car a few weeks earlier and had only driven it 160 kilometers.

To date, Koenigsegg has only built 28 examples of the Jesko, which is powered by a mid-rear twin-turbo V8 developing 1,280 horsepower. The manufacturer plans to produce 125 in total before ending production of this vehicle.

It remains to be seen what caused this fire and whether other Jeskos are affected by a possible defect. In the meantime, the happy owners of this car will have to be patient and leave their precious vehicle in the garage. A frustrating situation, but necessary to guarantee their safety and that of those around them.
