The famous Californian tuner Saleen is teaming up with Solution F to design and build an engine running on hydrogen. The move could revolutionize the future of Saleen vehicles, including a planned supercar.
An innovative partnership with Solution F
Solution F, a French company belonging to the GCK group, is collaborating with Saleen to develop a new twin-turbo V6 engine. According to a press release, this engine will be more environmentally friendly and will be able to run on hydrogen, as well as traditional and synthetic fuels. This engine should equip future Saleen road vehicles. The engine will be built in France with the help of Motul, another Solution F partner.
A vision for a sustainable future
Steve Saleen, President of Saleen, said: โWe believe the long-term solution for transportation will be multi-faceted where hydrogen and synthetic fuels are the future of green engines, while providing ultimate performance and convenience of traditional fuels. ยป
An experimental vehicle in preparation
Saleen and Solution F are also working on an experimental car based on the latter's Foenix H2, which is powered by a supercharged V8 developing 612 hp and 700 Nm of torque, according to Top Gear. For now, that's all we know about the vehicle, but that should change soon. Saleen plans to begin demonstrations in North America before the end of the year.
A return to original creations
The new supercar, when ready, won't be Saleen's first original creation. After years of improving cars like the Ford Mustang, the company decided to build its own car at the turn of the century. The result was the S7, a mid-engined supercar with a bold design and an extremely powerful twin-turbo V8. Although it hasn't quite managed to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini, it has its fans. Earlier this week, one of two examples built with the Competition package sold for $715,000.
The future of the S1 and the new supercar
The company also attempted to launch another sports car called the S1, although it has not yet entered production. It's unclear if Saleen's upcoming road car and the S1 are related in any way.
In conclusion, the partnership between Saleen and Solution F to develop a hydrogen engine marks an important step towards greener vehicles. This project could redefine Saleen's image and pave the way for a new generation of environmentally friendly supercars.
