As the Jaguar XF faces imminent demise, we've updated this article to include information on its competitors, including the Genesis G80 and Audi A6.
The 2024 Jaguar XF: an overlooked gem
The 2024 Jaguar XF is a stunning and underrated luxury sedan that captures the essence of British luxury with its design and style. Although the XF is only available in two trims and with one engine option, it offers a smooth and efficient driving experience. The automotive landscape can be cruel. What attracts the attention of journalists and consumers at one moment can, in the blink of an eye, sink into oblivion. Unfortunately, even a legendary British brand like Jaguar is not immune to the changing tides of relevance and obsolescence in the North American market.
Saying this is perhaps a bit harsh; this is not quite the case yet. However, Jaguar sedans have been somewhat neglected of late, which is a shame. Few can deny that British motoring's long-standing mid-size luxury sedan, the XF, is a seriously handsome car that has been forgotten. There are several reasons for the XF's decline in popularity over the years, one of them being the issue of reliability, a well-known topic in British vehicles.
Timeless British design
The XF has been handicapped by the sea of โโoptions in the luxury sedan segment, but excluding it would be a mistake. What this vehicle lacks, it makes up for in timeless aesthetics, thanks in part to the great Sir Ian Callum, who sketched out the lines of the original XF over a decade ago. The design has stood the test of time.
The British have long been known for their design prowess, and the 2024 iteration of the Jaguar XF continues that feeling by being the epitome of British luxury and class. Combining that old-fashioned charm with advanced technology, the XF captures the essence of what a Jaguar should be.
A spacious, high-tech interior
The interior of the 2024 Jaguar features a carefully arranged cabin with technology features on par with a luxury sedan. The 12-way power seats are covered in Duo leather, with wood and aluminum inserts that add a touch of elegance to an already luxurious cabin.
Although sedans are not as spacious as the popular SUVs, they offer enough room for passengers. The XF has ample head and legroom for both front and rear occupants. However, the option for the panoramic sunroof reduces front headroom by a few centimeters.
On the other hand, you have to travel light with the XF: it has 343 liters of cargo space, which you can increase by folding the rear seats. Cargo space was once one of the XF's strengths compared to other luxury sedans, but is now one of its weaknesses, along with cheaper mid-size luxury sedans like the Acura TLX offering greater luggage volume.
Technology and connectivity
At the center of the 2024 Jaguar XF is an 11.4-inch touchscreen Pivi Pro infotainment system, with a simplified menu structure for easy navigation. The infotainment system incorporates Apple Carplay and Android Auto, as well as a Meridian audio system for an immersive experience.
At the bottom of the center console are a pair of rotary knobs for climate control, a wireless phone charger, a drive mode selector, and a more traditional gear lever, unlike the older generation's rotary selector.
Jaguar XF engine options
Although the 2024 Jaguar XF outperforms competitors like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series in terms of design, it lacks power in the powertrain department. For the 2024 model year, Jaguar reduced the number of versions to two and retained the engine from the previous model year.
The two versions available for the Jaguar XF are the P250 R-Dynamic SE and the P300 R-Dynamic SE, the first being only available in rear-wheel drive configuration while the second benefits from all-wheel drive. Both models come with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Both the P250 and P350 models are powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with a slight variation in power. The standard 2.0-liter engine in the rear-wheel drive P250 produces 246 horsepower while the all-wheel drive P300 variant produces slightly more with 296 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The P300's responsive 2.0-liter engine is reasonably efficient with fuel consumption of 10.2 l/100 km in the city, 7.8 l/100 km on the highway and 9.0 l/100 km combined.
It is unfortunate, however, that Jaguar no longer offers the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine. The inline four-cylinder engine, while capable, is unlikely to have the same sporty feel as the older XF-S model from previous generations, thanks in part to the extensive use of aluminum, which is synonymous with Jaguar cars.
Extended standard features
There is a somewhat unfortunate aspect to the pricing strategy for the 2024 Jaguar XF, given the exceptional qualities found throughout the vehicle. However, within the XF range, given the impressive array of standard features included in the base P250 R-Dynamic model, the XF really stands out. Unless the all-wheel-drive setup is an absolute necessity, opting for the entry-level P250 variant is often the wisest choice.
What slows down the Jaguar XF
The British brand seems to have lost popularity or at least seems somewhat forgotten by many. What are the responsible factors, one might ask?
It seems much of the fault lies with Jaguar's lackadaisical marketing strategy and lack of attractive incentives to attract buyers to the mid-size XF sedan. For example, a buyer in Los Angeles can lease a comparable Alfa Romeo Giulia Competizione with all-wheel drive for $696 per month for 42 months at $54,590, while the Jaguar XF leases for almost $1,000 for a slightly longer period. short of 36 months.
Going a little further down the Giulia lineup, the Veloce cuts the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) to $50,100 and the monthly lease payment to $638 while still retaining an all-wheel-drive system. In summary, the Jaguar .
