Swiss luxury watchmaking surprises us once again with a model that combines nostalgia and innovation. The new Hautlence Retrovision '47 is a true time machine that will appeal to fans of vintage design and fine watchmaking.
A bold concept inspired by the 40s
The Hautlence Retrovision '47 draws its inspiration from an emblematic object from the 1940s: the โModel 5A5โ radio receiver from General Television & Radio Corp. This retro watch is not a simple reinterpretation, but a true metamorphosis of a radio into a luxury timepiece.
Originally designed as a one-off piece for Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024, the Retrovision '47 has generated such enthusiasm that it is now available in a limited edition of 10. This watch embodies the perfect exercise in style, imagining what a Hautlence creation might have been like if the brand had existed 80 years ago.
A design that does not go unnoticed
The Retrovision '47 is distinguished by its rectangular case with rounded edges, measuring 44.4 mm wide by 39.2 mm high, for a thickness of 12.1 mm. The grade 5 titanium used for the case is hand painted, faithfully reproducing the green and white marbled look of the Bakelite of the original radio.
The mirror-polished grade 23 titanium elements, such as the speaker grille, the dial frame and the two curved handles, contrast elegantly with the body of the watch. The winding crown, cleverly concealed in the handle at 6 o'clock, preserves the rectangular silhouette so characteristic of this retro watch.
A dial that tells a story
The dial of the Retrovision '47 is a true ode to the design of the 40s. Divided into two distinct parts, it presents:
โ Right: a small rectangular gold-plated dial, vertical brushed finish, featuring black Super-LumiNova numerals and the emblematic Hautlence Mรถbius pattern in the center. โ Left: a speaker grille in polished grade 23 titanium, concealing a flying whirlwind.
The bright red hands are reminiscent of those on the original radio receiver, while gray Super-LumiNova radio waves on a black background surround the tourbillon, emitting a green glow to match the dial indexes.
An exceptional movement
The Retrovision '47 is powered by the D20 caliber, an in-house automatic movement beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and offering a generous 72-hour power reserve. Composed of 176 parts and 29 jewels, this caliber is distinguished by its one-minute flying tourbillon equipped with a double balance spring.
This technical innovation, borrowed from the famous sister manufacturer H. Moser & Cie, compensates for gravitational errors thanks to two balance springs that deploy symmetrically and oppositely during oscillation.
A bracelet that completes the vintage look
To complete its retro aesthetic, the Retrovision '47 is mounted on a bright red calfskin strap, reminiscent of the dial color of the Model 5A5 radio receiver. This custom-made strap fits snugly over the curved handles that double as attachments, and fastens with a stainless steel buckle.
A limited edition for discerning collectors
With only 10 examples produced, the Hautlence Retrovision '47 (reference ED20-SP00) is aimed at the most demanding collectors. Its price of 61,500 euros positions it in the high-end segment of luxury watchmaking, alongside the most prestigious names in the sector.
This retro watch represents a real stylistic break from the resolutely modern and technical designs that usually characterize the Hautlence collection. It thus offers a unique opportunity to acquire an exceptional piece combining nostalgia, technical innovation and exclusivity.
The Hautlence Retrovision '47 perfectly embodies the ability of Swiss watchmaking to reinvent its heritage while pushing the boundaries of creativity. It will undoubtedly appeal to watch enthusiasts looking for a truly unique timepiece, capable of taking you on a journey through time with every glance at the wrist.
