The DeLorean from Back to the Future is reborn in an electric version, the result is astonishing!

The iconic DeLorean DMC-12, made famous by the Back to the Future trilogy, is making its comeback in an unexpected form. Transformed into a plug-in hybrid vehicle, this cinema icon proves that the future has indeed arrived. Discover the details of this electrifying conversion that combines nostalgia and cutting-edge technology.

A journey through technological time

Electrogenic has pulled off a real feat by giving the DeLorean DMC-12 a second life. This conversion into a plug-in hybrid vehicle breathes new life into this cult model, nearly 40 years after its initial release.

According to Steve Drummond, CEO of Electrogenic, the DeLorean was the ideal candidate for such a transformation. Its futuristic design contrasted with a rather disappointing original engine, providing a perfect opportunity for electrification.

This metamorphosis preserves the spirit of the DeLorean while giving it the performance worthy of its futuristic appearance. A bold gamble that will delight fans of the film saga as well as electric car enthusiasts.

Performance worthy of the future

The electrified DeLorean has a 43 kWh battery, cleverly installed in the location of the old fuel tank. This integration allows the original structure of the vehicle to be retained, with all modifications being reversible.

Despite the addition of the battery, the total weight has only increased by 40 kg compared to the original model. A feat that does not prevent the electric DeLorean from displaying significantly superior performance:

  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, twice as fast as the original version
  • Range of 241 km in controlled driving conditions
  • Fast full charge in just one hour thanks to the CCS system
  • These impressive numbers propelled the DeLorean into a new era, allowing it to finally live up to its avant-garde design.

A cockpit worthy of Doc Brown

The interior of the DeLorean has not been left out in this technological makeover. Electrogenic has equipped the vehicle with many modern features to improve the driving experience:

  • โ€œEcoโ€ and โ€œSportโ€ driving modes to adapt performance to the driverโ€™s needs
  • Infotainment system with Apple CarPlay
  • Display screen for driving modes, battery status and charging
  • Addition of an air conditioning system, absent on the original model
  • These improvements provide comfort and practicality worthy of a modern car, while preserving the retro-futuristic charm of the cabin.

A concept that extends to other classics

The DeLorean is not the only classic vehicle to benefit from Electrogenic's know-how. The company offers โ€œplug and playโ€ conversion kits for other iconic models:

  • Land Rover Defender
  • Jaguar E-type
  • Porsche 911
  • This approach makes it possible to give a second lease of life to classic vehicles, by equipping them with modern and ecological engines. An innovative way to preserve automotive heritage while adapting it to current environmental challenges.

An electrifying future for classic cars

The conversion of the DeLorean into a plug-in hybrid vehicle opens up new perspectives for vintage car enthusiasts. It demonstrates that it is possible to combine the charm of the past with the technologies of the future, without distorting the original spirit of the vehicles.

This approach could well appeal to many collectors, eager to be able to use their classic vehicles on a daily basis without being hampered by increasingly strict traffic restrictions in city centers.

The electric DeLorean perfectly embodies this fusion between past and future. It proves that electrification can be much more than a simple constraint, by giving a second youth to legendary models.

With this transformation, the DeLorean DMC-12 takes a real leap in time, going from cinematic icon to avant-garde vehicle. A metamorphosis that would surely have impressed Doc Brown himself, proving that the future imagined in the films of the 80s is ultimately not so far from our reality.
