Japanese tuner Varis has just unveiled a spectacular body kit for the Toyota GR Corolla, transforming this compact sports car into a real racing beast. This radical preparation marks a turning point in the history of the model, offering a look and performance worthy of competition cars.
The GR Corolla: a concentrate of power made in Toyota
The Toyota GR Corolla represents the culmination of the Japanese brand's efforts in the field of compact sports cars. Developed by the Gazoo Racing division, this supercharged version of the famous compact model stands out radically from its hybrid cousins.
Under the hood, there is a 1.6-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline engine developing a whopping 305 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This horsepower is transmitted to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, guaranteeing pure and unfiltered driving sensations. With a contained weight of 1,474 kg, the performance is there.
Unfortunately, this bomb is not marketed in Europe, where we have to make do with the GR Yaris as the flagship of the Toyota sports range. French fans will therefore only be able to admire this exclusive preparation from afar.
Varis takes the concept to the extreme
Japanese tuner Varis, known for its bold designs, took on the GR Corolla with the intention of pushing its limits. The result is a full carbon fiber body kit that combines aggressive aesthetics with aerodynamic optimization.
At the front, an imposing carbon splitter (around โฌ1,550) complements the original shield. Side fins (โฌ590) improve airflow and reinforce downforce. The carbon fiber hood (โฌ2,740) contributes to weight reduction while optimizing engine cooling.
The sides of the car are adorned with profiled side skirts (โฌ2,100), accentuating the vehicle's lowered and muscular silhouette. At the rear, the most striking element is undoubtedly the imposing three-element carbon wing, adjustable (โฌ1,735). A diffuser (โฌ775) completes the ensemble, channeling the airflow under the car.
Preparation focused on aerodynamics
All the elements proposed by Varis aim to optimize the aerodynamics of the GR Corolla. If the tuner does not communicate precise figures, we can expect a significant improvement in support at high speed. The weight reduction, although not quantified, should also contribute to refining the dynamic behavior.
Interestingly, Varis does not offer any mechanical modifications. Since the stock engine was already particularly powerful, the tuner chose to focus on optimizing aerodynamics and reducing weight.
To complete the whole, Varis offers specific elements for the exhaust: a heat shield (โฌ305) and carbon exhaust tips (โฌ635). These parts bring a final touch to this extreme preparation, both visually and sonically.
An exclusive that is long awaited
While wealthy enthusiasts can already place orders for this exclusive body kit, they will have to be patient. The delivery times announced by Varis vary from 3 to 4 months for the simplest parts, and can reach 7 to 8 months for the most complex elements.
This wait is explained by the artisanal nature of the production, each piece being carefully manufactured to guarantee impeccable quality. The manufacturing time also reflects the exclusivity of this preparation, which will not be mass produced.
For European enthusiasts who would dream of seeing such a machine on our roads, they will have to be content to admire the photos. Since the GR Corolla is not officially imported, this Varis preparation will unfortunately remain an inaccessible fantasy for the moment.
Fans of the Old Continent will have to fall back on the GR Yaris, which could soon benefit from an interesting evolution. Rumors indeed evoke the imminent arrival of an 8-speed automatic gearbox on this model, thus offering an alternative to the current manual transmission.
This Varis preparation for the Toyota GR Corolla is probably the most extreme incarnation of the model to date. It demonstrates the potential of this platform and gives a glimpse of what could be an even more radical version coming straight from the Toyota factories. Aficionados can only dream of such an eventuality.
