Stellantis plans to launch 30 hybrid models by the end of the year, with six more by 2026, while aiming for a complete transition to electric vehicles by 2030.
An ambitious strategy for the future
Automotive giant Stellantis is set to revolutionize the European market with an impressive range of hybrid vehicles. By the end of the year, no fewer than 30 hybrid models will be available, and this number will increase further with six new launches planned by 2026. This initiative is part of Stellantisโ overall strategy to electrify its portfolio of 14 brands.
Stellantis hybrid models all feature the electrified dual-clutch transmission (eDCT), which integrates a 28 horsepower (21 kW / 29 PS) electric motor. This technology works with a 48V battery with a capacity of 0.9 kWh, allowing up to 1 km of range in electric mode alone. Although this solution is less efficient than a full hybrid system, it uses regenerative braking and coasting to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 20% depending on the model.
An affordable alternative to PHEVs and BEVs
Stellantisโ mild hybrids are positioned as a more accessible alternative to plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). These vehicles offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for consumers, while remaining more affordable. While Stellantis does not offer full hybrid models like Toyota or Nissan, their eDCT technology presents a significant competitive advantage.
The eDCT can also be compatible with plug-in hybrids, requiring only the modification of the electric traction module and the inverter. This flexibility allows Stellantis to quickly adapt to market developments and consumer preferences.
The rise of hybrid sales
In 2024, sales of Stellantis EU30 hybrid models increased by 41% compared to the previous year. This significant growth reflects the growing appeal of hybrid vehicles among European consumers. With the expansion of the mild hybrid range, Stellantis hopes to continue this momentum.
The eDCT gearboxes are produced in Metz (France) and Turin (Italy), with a combined production capacity of over 1.2 million units per year, supplying 11 vehicle production plants. This production capacity supports Stellantisโ ambitions to dominate the hybrid market in Europe.
Upcoming launches expected
Although Stellantis has not yet revealed the details of the six upcoming hybrid models, it is very likely that the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Grande Panda Hybrid will be among them, as these models have been officially confirmed. The list of mild hybrid models available in Europe by the end of the year is impressive:
Investments and future goals
Stellantis is investing more than โฌ50 billion in its global electrification program over the decade, as part of its Dare Forward 2030 plan. The ambitious goal is to have a fully electric passenger vehicle portfolio in Europe by 2030, with a 50% share of battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales for passenger cars and light trucks in the U.S. market by the same year.
Stellantisโ ultimate goal is to become a carbon neutral company by 2038, demonstrating its long-term commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction. With this strategy, Stellantis is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to greener mobility solutions.
Stellantis' commitment to innovation and electrification promises to transform the European automotive landscape, providing consumers with cleaner, more cost-effective options while meeting growing environmental demands.
