Rolex Price Drop: Perfect Time to Buy!

The pre-owned luxury watch market is booming, and pre-owned Rolex prices continue to drop. Now is a great time to buy a pre-owned sports Rolex, especially a recent model. Weโ€™ve crunched the data to help you find the best deals.

A buyer-friendly market

In 2024, the pre-owned luxury watch market is stable and calm. Prices are falling and supply is plentiful, making it a real buyer's market. This is especially true for pre-owned Rolexes.

Although the general market trends are clear, it is important to note that some specific brands, models and references may move against the current. Here are some examples:

  • The Cartier Panthรจre saw its price increase by 19.51% in the first quarter of this year
  • Breitling Navitimer Price Jumps 18%
  • Rolex Submariner, GMT-Master and Explorer II at attractive prices

With some notable exceptions, now is a great time to buy a pre-owned sports Rolex, whether vintage, neo-vintage, or recent. Data from Chrono24โ€™s ChronoPulse Index confirms this trend, with Rolex prices continuing to decline in recent months.

Here are some particularly interesting models:

  • Five-digit Rolex Submariners (1980s-2000s) are highly prized for their style with their aluminum bezels
  • The Rolex Submariner 16610 (post-1984 with shiny dial, gold indexes and caliber 3135) saw its price drop by 3.84% over three months, with many examples selling well below โ‚ฌ10,000
  • The Rolex Submariner 124060 (current no-date version released in 2020) has seen its price drop by 6.58% year-on-year, with a 5.25% drop in the last month alone
  • The once extremely rare Rolex Submariner โ€œHulkโ€ 116610 has seen its price plummet 3.73% in the last 30 days, from around โ‚ฌ26,000 during the pandemic to around โ‚ฌ17,000 today
  • Five-digit Rolex GMT-Master IIs, such as the reference 16710 Pepsi, have seen their prices drop 1.14% over the past 30 days and 3.57% over the year.
  • The 40mm Rolex Explorer II 16570 with black dial saw its price increase by 3.89% over three months, while the 42mm version 226570 fell by 4.45% over the same period.
  • Opportunities to seize on the Rolex Oyster Perpetual and Datejust

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 124300, which was very hard to get during the pandemic, has seen its price drop by 20.99%. You can now find one for around โ‚ฌ7,500.

Conversely, the Rolex Datejust 36 reference 126234 has seen its price increase in recent months, perhaps indicating a growing preference for dress watches.

Even the Daytona and Milgauss are seeing their prices drop

Although steel Rolex Daytonas remain expensive (around double the retail price), the 2016 reference 116500LN has seen its price drop by 5.27% over three months.

Even the discontinued Rolex Milgauss 116400GV saw its price drop by 7.56% over the same period. When prices for Daytonas and discontinued models drop, it is a clear sign of a buyer's market.

In short, if youโ€™re looking for a pre-owned Rolex, now is a great time to get a bargain. Whether youโ€™re interested in a vintage Submariner, a neo-vintage GMT-Master II, or a recent Oyster Perpetual, youโ€™re likely to find the watch of your dreams at a great price. Just remember to do your research, choose a great example, and check whether the model youโ€™re interested in has seen its price increase or decrease recently. With a little patience and insight, you could walk away with the Rolex of your dreams at an unbeatable price.
