Secrets of the American presidential limousine revealed by Secret Service agents on video

Celebrity TV host and car collector Jay Leno had the unique opportunity to get a close-up look at “The Beast,” the President of the United States' highly secure limousine. Accompanied by two Secret Service agents, he reveals some of the mysteries surrounding this extraordinary armored vehicle.

A unique vehicle designed for maximum protection

The American presidential limousine, nicknamed “The Beast”, is arguably one of the most seen but least known vehicles in the world. Custom-built to protect the president from any potential threats, this car is one of a kind.

Contrary to appearances, this is not a simple modified Cadillac XTS. “The Beast” was created from scratch by General Motors engineers, whose names remain secret for security reasons. Its dimensions are impressive: as long as a small bus and almost two meters high, it is equipped with bus tires.

Impressive technical specifications

Although many details remain confidential for obvious security reasons, some features have been revealed:

  • Extreme armor, with 30 cm thick doors and bulletproof windows
  • Estimated weight between 7,000 and 9,000 kg (not officially confirmed)
  • Oxygen tanks inside to protect the president and six other occupants in case of biological attack (unconfirmed)
  • A secure communications system capable of sending launch codes for nuclear weapons (unconfirmed)
  • A revealing anecdote

Steve Abel, the limousine's chief mechanic, shared an interesting anecdote that occurred during a trip to North Carolina. The Beast's tank had been accidentally filled with a mixture of water and fuel, causing it to break down. Fortunately, the Secret Service was able to dispatch another vehicle from Washington, D.C. in time, demonstrating the importance of preparedness and responsiveness in presidential protection.

    A vehicle in constant evolution

The current presidential limousine, now in its third generation, was introduced in 2018 under President Donald Trump. Trump reportedly ordered 12 units from General Motors at a total cost of $15.8 million.

This new version of “The Beast” illustrates the constant evolution of security measures surrounding the American president, adapting to modern threats while maintaining a high level of secrecy about his real capabilities.

Jay Leno's report offers a rare glimpse of the legendary vehicle, while respecting the constraints imposed by national security. It highlights the delicate balance between the public's fascination with this symbol of the American presidency and the absolute necessity of protecting its most crucial secrets.
