Nivada Grenchen strikes hard with the release of its new Chronosport, a watch with a retro design inspired by a rare prototype from the 70s. This exceptional piece, available in two versions, promises to seduce vintage watch lovers and discerning collectors. Dive into the fascinating world of this chronograph with timeless charm.
A resurrected legacy
The story of the Chronosport is worthy of a novel. It all began when Guillaume Laidet, the man behind the resurrection of Nivada Grenchen in 2018, discovered a prototype of the Chronosport on an auction site. This model, one of 20 prototypes ever produced in the 70s, had never gone beyond the design stage. Intrigued by its potential, Laidet decided to give it a second life.
The new Chronosport is available in two variants:โ A version with white luminescent indexes, for a more modern lookโ A version with yellow luminescent indexes, for lovers of โfauxtinaโ and vintage aesthetics
A compact and bold design
The Chronosport features a 316L stainless steel case measuring 38 mm in diameter, 44.3 mm in length and 15.7 mm thick (including the crystal). These compact yet robust proportions give it a unique presence on the wrist. The domed sapphire crystal further reinforces this impression of solidity.
The matte black dial features a distinctive layout with subdials at 9 and 12 oโclock. These counters, designed by Jean Singer (the creator of the Omega Speedmaster Racing and Heuer Skipper dials), are finished in a taupe hue with a hint of khaki. A date window at 3 oโclock and a tachymeter scale around the dial rim complete the look.
The unidirectional, ribbed black aluminum bezel measures 37mm in diameter and features 60-minute and 12-hour scales.
A proven movement
At the heart of the Chronosport beats the legendary Valjoux 7750 caliber, a robust and reliable automatic movement. Its features include:โ A frequency of 4 Hzโ 25 jewelsโ A power reserve of 42 hoursโ Hours, minutes, seconds, 30-minute chronograph and date functions
This โworkhorseโ movement is perfectly suited to the vintage and functional spirit of the watch.
Assumed versatility
The Chronosport is a real โstrap monsterโ with no less than eight different strap options:โ Several choices of black or brown leatherโ A Tropic-style rubber strapโ A stainless steel bracelet with three flat links
This diversity allows everyone to personalize their watch according to their tastes and occasions. The bracelets have a width of 20 mm, also facilitating the choice of aftermarket bracelets.
A limited edition not to be missed
The Chronosport is available for pre-order on the Nivada Grenchen website until August 25, 2024. Its price is set at โฌ2,180 with a leather or rubber strap, and โฌ2,380 with the steel strap (excluding taxes and customs fees).
The first deliveries are scheduled for the end of October 2024. Watches ordered before August 25 will benefit from individual numbering, making each piece a unique collector's item.
A watch that divides
The Chronosport will leave no one indifferent. Its bold proportions and retro design will undoubtedly provoke passionate reactions. Some will love its vintage charm and compact silhouette, while others might be put off by its relatively large thickness.
Nivada Grenchen has taken a bold gamble by resurrecting this forgotten prototype. The Chronosport is aimed at watch lovers looking for a unique piece, combining watchmaking heritage and distinctive design. Its reliable movement, robust construction and versatility make it a versatile watch, capable of accompanying you on all your adventures.
The Chronosport represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of watchmaking history reinvented for the 21st century. Whether you are a passionate collector or simply a lover of fine mechanics, this watch certainly deserves your attention. Do not delay in placing your order if you wish to be among the lucky owners of a numbered example of this limited edition that promises to leave its mark on the history of Nivada Grenchen.
