The sedan and station wagon go electric with impressive range

Audi unveils its new A6 e-tron range, marking the transition to electric power for its flagship model. Available as a Sportback sedan and Avant estate, this new generation promises record-breaking range and performance worthy of the brand's reputation.

An electric revolution for the A6

German manufacturer Audi is taking a major step in its transition to electromobility by introducing the A6 e-tron range. This development is part of the brand's overall strategy to electrify its peer models. The A6, the spearhead of this new era, is completely reinventing itself while retaining the DNA that made it successful.

Based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, the new A6 e-tron features a renewed design, cutting-edge technology and a range of over 700 kilometres in the WLTP cycle. This technical feat positions the model as a serious competitor in the premium electric sedan segment.

An evolutionary and aerodynamic design

The A6 e-tron retains the elegant proportions of its predecessor while adopting a design language that is resolutely focused on the future. With dimensions of 4,928 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,487 mm in height, the vehicle imposes its presence on the road.

The emphasis on aerodynamics is evident, with a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd for the Sportback version and 0.24 Cd for the Avant. This performance is achieved thanks to a flattened grille, an optimized lower air intake and the option to opt for camera mirrors.

The light signature, a key element of Audi design, is given special attention. At the front, matrix LED headlights integrate slender daytime running lights, while at the rear, an imposing OLED strip allows for unprecedented customization of the lighting. For the first time in the brand's history, the Audi logo is also illuminated.

A high-tech and refined interior

The interior of the A6 e-tron is characterised by its high level of digitalisation. The cockpit is structured around a curved interface comprising an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch multimedia display. As an option, an additional 10.9-inch display can be installed on the passenger side, capable of streaming content visible only to the occupant.

The interior ambiance focuses on refinement with a selection of noble materials and high-end finishes. The sports steering wheel integrates controls grouped into touch panels, while the refined central console relegates the gear selector to a simple switch. An innovative panoramic roof with variable opacity completes this luxurious atmosphere.

High-performance electric engines

The PPE platform allows the integration of an 800 V electrical architecture, allowing ultra-fast charging of up to 270 kW. This technology is crucial to fully exploit the 100 kWh battery (94.9 kWh useful) that equips the A6 e-tron.

At launch, two engines will be offered:

  • The Audi A6 e-tron performance: 362 hp (270 kW) in rear-wheel drive
  • The Audi S6 e-tron: 496 hp (405 kW) with quattro all-wheel drive
  • Both versions boast an impressive range of up to 720 kilometres in the WLTP cycle.

Subsequently, the range will be enriched with entry-level versions developing 281 hp (210 kW) in propulsion and 422 hp (315 kW) in all-wheel drive. All variants will benefit from the same battery pack, optimized for charging on a 400 V network and equipped with predictive temperature management.

    Optimized road behavior

To deliver a driving experience worthy of Audi's reputation, the A6 e-tron can be equipped with either adaptive suspension as standard or optional air suspension. The latter allows the ride height and damping firmness to be adjusted according to the selected driving modes.

    Pricing and Availability

Reservations for the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron will open in September 2024, with deliveries scheduled for late 2024 or early 2025. The price list is as follows:

  • A6 e-tron Sportback Performance: from โ‚ฌ81,000
  • A6 e-tron Avant Performance: from โ‚ฌ83,500
  • S6 e-tron Sportback: from โ‚ฌ104,500
  • S6 e-tron Avant: from โ‚ฌ107,000
  • An RS6 e-tron version in preparation

High-performance enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the RS6 e-tron version. Although official information is still scarce, spy photos suggest a launch sometime in 2025. This sporty version could develop a power output that easily exceeds 700 hp, promising electrifying sensations.

The Audi A6 e-tron marks a major turning point in the history of the brand with the rings. By combining the characteristic elegance of the A6 with the advantages of electric propulsion, Audi demonstrates its ability to innovate while preserving the essence of its iconic models. This new range promises to be a formidable competitor in the premium electric sedan market, combining record range, high performance and cutting-edge technology.
