The 95th Annual Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 12 and honor the best in film over the past year. For the third time, Jimmy Kimmel will host the star-studded ceremony, where countless beloved films are nominated across all the major categories. Everything Everywhere All At Once led the pack with 11 total nominations, including in the coveted Best Picture category. Since we’re living in the streaming age of film/television, most of the 2023 Oscar-nominated movies are available to stream from home. Some films, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylonand The Whale, still can only be seen in theaters, as of the time of publishing this story. The countdown is on to watch this year’s nominated projects before the ceremony airs on ABC. Here’s how to do it.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Everything Everywhere All At Once can be streamed on Paramount+, Hulu, or Amazon, but only with the Showtime add-on subscription. It’s also available to buy on Apple TV+ for $19.99. The film stars Michelle Yeoh as a Chinese-American immigrant who is thrust into the multiverse. It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Michelle), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan), and Best Supporting Actress (Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis), among other nodes.
All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front is available to stream exclusively on Netflix. The anti-war film, based on the 1929 novel by the same name, follows a young German soldier (played by Felix Kammerer) reckoning with the final days of World War I. The movie was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.
The Banshees Of Inisherin
The Banshees of Inisherin is available to stream exclusively on HBO Max. The Martin McDonagh-directed project explores the abrupt ending of a lifelong friendship between two Irish men, played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin), Best Supporting Actor (Brendan and Barry Keoghan) and Best Supporting Actress (Kerry Condon).
Elvis is available to stream exclusively on HBO Max. Austin Butler plays the iconic Elvis Presley in the biopic film, directed by Baz Luhrmann. Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie Presleytragically died seven months after the film was released. Elvis scored eight Oscar noms, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Austin).
Steven Spielberg‘s The Fabelmans is available for purchase on Amazon and Apple TV, both for $19.99. It’s expected to arrive on Peacock at some point in February. The film is a semi-autobiographical story about Steven Spielberg’s childhood, with Gabriel LaBelle playing the famous director as a kid. The cast also includes Michelle Williams, Paul Danoand Seth Rogen. The Fabelmans is up for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Steven), Best Actress (Michelle), and Best Supporting Actor (Judd Hirsch).
Tár is currently available on AmazonApple TV, and YouTube, for $5.99 to rent or $19.99 to buy. It’s going to be available on Peacock starting January 27. The psychological thriller stars Cate Blanchett as fictional composer and conductor Lydia Tár who completely unravels. The movie received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Todd Field), and Best Actress (Cate).
Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun: Maverick is available to stream on Paramount+. It’s also available on Amazon and Vudu to rent ($5.99) or buy ($19.99). The Tom Cruise-starring sequel to the 1986 action film was a major box office success, grossing over $1.489 billion worldwide. It’s one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Song for Lady Gaga‘s “Hold My Hand.” Tom Cruise’s absence from the Best Actor category was considered a major snub by fans.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will make its streaming debut on Disney+ on February 1. The superhero sequel repeated the original Black Panther film’s success by receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. It scored four other nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Angela Bassett, who became the first Marvel actor to receive an Academy Award acting nomination. Also nominated Rihanna‘s song “Lift Me Up,” a beautiful tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
Triangle of Sadness
Triangle of Sadness is available on Amazon and Apple TV+ to rent ($5.99) or buy ($7.99). Ruben Östlund directed the satirical black comedy about a celebrity couple on a luxury cruise with wealthy guests. The film nabbed three Oscar noms: Best Picture, Best Director (Ruben), and Best Original Screenplay.
