Alden Ring update 1.09 adds ray tracing on PS5, here are all the patch notes

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have just released the latest major patch for Alden Ring, the widely popular open world RPG. This brings the game up to version 1.09, and the update is now available on all platforms, including PS5 and PS4 of course. The main headline addition here is the implementation of ray tracing for the current-generation version.

Yes, all those horrible wet caves and shiny surfaces can now be shown with much more realistic reflections. After the update, you will be able to toggle this option in settings. However, Bandai Namco warns that frame rate and resolution “may be affected” when ray tracing is activated. We don’t know to what extent, but hopefully it doesn’t drag the performance down too much.

While ray tracing is the main event here, the patch is a big one, with plenty of balance tweaks and bug fixes. We have popped Full patch notes below:

General equilibrium arrangement

  • Added an invincible window when respawning in the Colosseum.

  • Increased attack speed and reduced attack recovery time for the following weapon types:
    • Straight Sword / Curved Sword / Katana / Twinblade Sword / Ax / Hammer / Halberd
  • First attack speed has been increased for the following weapon types:
    • Straight Sword/Curved Sword/Whip
  • Increased the speed of guard counters for the following weapon types:
    • Straight Sword / Great Sword / Giant Sword / Great Curved Sword / Katana / Twinblade Sword / Ax / Great Ax / Flail / Great Hammer / Spear / Great Spear / Halberd
  • Reduced attack recovery time the whip weapons
