Assassin’s Creed Mirage will attempt to bring back Unity’s much-lauded parkour system
We already know that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going to be a small-scale title with a heavy focus on stealth. But what about parkour? Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will take place within a particularly dense recreation of 800’s Baghdad, so does this mean that a more complex parkour system will be used, as in other traditional Assassin’s Creed projects?
The answer is yes, apparently. According to lead producer Fabian Salomon, by Arab hardwareMirage is aiming to recreate a similar feel to Assassin’s Creed Unity’s unique parkour system — a system that was highly praised by fans, despite that game’s incredibly rough launch.
Unity takes place within a gorgeously detailed Paris, filled with tall buildings, perfectly placed objects for parkour, and all kinds of shortcuts. Ubisoft essentially overhauled their entire parkour system for Unity, and this was shown in many of the game’s contextual animations. Once its frame rate was ironed out and most of its bugs squashed, the Unity map was a joy to explore at speed.
The development team will look to replicate that success with the Mirage, then. Here’s hoping it works.
