Capcom has unveiled a major motion capture facility to ‘enhance’ its games
You know Capcom must be doing well for itself when it just revealed a brand new, state-of-the-art development facility. Comprised of not one, but two major motion capture studios, the so-called Capcom Creative Studio has opened in Osaka, Japan. Osaka is also where you will find the company’s headquarters.
Capcom wants to “strengthen the creation of modern game visuals” with this facility, to “further strengthen” its output. Of course, many will argue that the publisher’s games are already of very high quality, so this is really the icing on the cake. The likes of Resident Evil 4 Remake looks great for Capcom’s excellent RE engine, but these new studios could push things even further.
Actually, we are talking about it big Budget project here. For example, Sony’s major PlayStation studios — Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch, etc. — all make heavy use of the latest motion capture technology, and this is at least partially the case in titles such as The Last of Us, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West look great.
The press release reads: “The new Creative Studio is a state-of-the-art production facility equipped with two motion capture studios. Including the latest ultra-high-resolution models, increasing the spatial density of filming with 150 cameras, designed in one is. The largest shooting area in Japan (11m×15m×5m), this new studio makes it possible to film up to 10 actors simultaneously or complete full-performance motion capture.” It certainly sounds impressive.
Of course, this is Capcom putting its recent financial successes to good use. Just last week, the company’s stock hit an all-time high, and it’s now reeling off hit after hit for an entire console generation.
