The first 18 minutes of gameplay from EA’s upcoming Dead Space remake has been published IGN, and it looks like a remarkable upgrade from the PS3 original. Although this opening is very similar to the 2008 original, there are some small improvements that long-time fans will notice. Protagonist Isaac, for example, spends a few seconds building a plasma cutter – rather than simply picking it up off a workbench.

And if you want a point of comparison, here’s footage from the PS3 original. As you can see, it’s very similar in terms of encounters and level design, but it obviously looks great on modern hardware:
There will be other changes in the final game, such as full control in the zero-gravity sequence, which will dramatically change the overall gameplay flow. But it seems like it’s making adjustments in all the right areas, keeping the feel and atmosphere of the original. Incredibly, it’s due next month – and we’re looking forward to putting it through its paces.
