Evil West’s PS5 performance mode is a bit of a kicker at 1080p, 60fps.

The super promising action-shooter Evil West is out next week on PS5 and PS4, and we’re really excited to give it a go. However, the game’s graphical options — especially on Sony’s current-gen consoles — leave something to be desired.

These options were recently confirmed by publisher Focus Home Interactive, and they’ve caused a bit of a backlash among hardcore PlayStation fans. On the PS5, players will have to choose between a quality mode that pushes 2160p at 30 frames-per-second, or a performance mode that lowers the resolution to 1080p so that the game reaches 60 frames-per-second. can

Most performance modes on the PS5 target a higher base resolution, or use the magic of dynamic resolution to keep things looking sharp, so Evil West’s sacrifice in this department is disappointing. This is obviously a very action-heavy title, so you’ll probably want that (hopefully) smooth 60fps — but on a 4K TV, 1080p can look decidedly muddy these days. PS5 users will have to decide, then.

Meanwhile, the PS4 and PS4 Pro get a standard 1080p at 30fps, with the Pro offering “improved graphical quality”.
