Final Fantasy 16 will look amazing on PS5 at 60fps

Final Fantasy XVI was one of the highlights at PAX East 2023 over the weekend, where we got to see the wonderful world of Valysthia before the developers fielded a few more questions from the community (besides showing off more gameplay).

We also got some welcome tech samples, with producer Naoki Yoshida revealing that Final Fantasy XVI will feature the two performance modes we’ve come to expect with current-gen games. One will feature 4K visuals at 2160p and detailed graphics with a 30fps target, while the other prioritizes frame rate, likely aiming for 60fps at 1440p. Both will benefit from near-instant load times, with a save file loaded during gameplay taking less than three seconds to return to gameplay, which is pretty impressive, given last week’s Squeeze Gap discourse. is

It looks like QTEs are also making a return, with some epic boss encounters being split across multiple stages, and with each stage shift, both the boss and the environment change as well. Depending on the situation, developers will need three different types of prompts (attack, evasion and conflict) to make each shift feel more “dynamic”.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on PS5 on June 22nd, and we’re sure we’ll learn more as the date inches closer. Where are your hype levels? Let us know in the comments section below.
