Free-to-play shooter The Finals is flying in closed beta testing on PC, in development for PS5
If you’re at all interested in multiplayer shooters, you may have started hearing about The Finals recently. From developer Embark Studios — which includes several former Battlefield devs — it’s a free-to-play, team-based FPS that’s currently in a closed beta test on PC, and it’s already proving very popular. . The question remains: Is Finale coming to PS5? Fortunately, it is.
The game will originally launch on PS5 alongside the PC and Xbox series, though there is no release date yet. For now, we can at least tell you what the game is, and why it has people excited.
Finals is also the name of the in-universe game show, in which players plug into virtual battlegrounds and compete for fame and fortune. While the game may seem pretty vanilla, it has some pretty interesting things going for it. First, server-side destruction and player movement mean that each map can be completely hacked, and that the carnage will be exactly the same for everyone. This allows for more improvised tactics, the most obvious example being punching holes in buildings to expose the enemy.
Another interesting bullet point is its wide compatibility. Apparently, you’ll actually be able to tweak what you want your avatar to be and how they play; There will be tons of visual customization options, and you can then outfit them with all kinds of weapons, from katanas to rocket launchers. Throw in various gadgets, like zip-lines, shields, and grappling hooks, and it all looks pretty dynamic.
Word on the street suggests it could be a big deal when it finally arrives, but we PlayStation users will have to wait before we see what the fuss is about. Are you interested in the final? Are you playing the beta on PC? Let us know in the comments section below.
