God of War Ragnarok smashed through an incredible 11 million sales

You’d be crazy to bet against God of War Ragnarok being a huge commercial hit, but the game’s first sales update has surprised us. The sequel, which launched on PS5 and PS4 on November 9 last year, has sold 11 million copies. That’s serious blockbuster territory for a title that’s not even three months old.

Last we heard, Ragnarok sold just over 5 million copies two weeks after its release, so it’s gone on to do 6 million more since then. Crazy when you consider the fact that most games enjoy their biggest sales right after launch, and then fall off pretty quickly.

“None of this would be possible without the support of our fans, so thanks for coming on this journey with us!” Developer Sony Santa Monica Studio writes on its social feeds.

For context, it took a full year for God of War (2018) to break 10 million units, so Ragnarok’s success is pretty impressive. There is no doubt that its total will continue to climb in the coming months and beyond.

And, of course, many would argue that it’s totally worth it. God of War Ragnarok is, in our humble opinion, a fantastic action adventure – one of the best on modern consoles. At this point, a critical and commercial smash hit.
