Gran Turismo Movie Combines A Character-Driven Story With ‘Bloody Intense’ Racing
The Gran Turismo The film has had its share of naysayers since its announcement, but it has some serious potential. Telling the true story of a player who went from playing the titular game to racing real cars, it has a great premise and, by the sounds of it, will feature some great driving action as well.
Director Neill Blomkamp (best known for his sci-fi films District 9 And chappy) spoke to empire magazine about the film, which has Archie Madekway set to star as Jan Mardenborough, the aforementioned main character. Apparently inspired by the amazing stunt work in Top Gun: MaverickBlomkamp says the film will feature “real actors, in real cars, on real race tracks, driving really fast”.
However, while the racing should provide some high-speed thrills, the main emphasis will be led by the characters rather than the cars. “The north star for me was to create a video game title with character work that drives the film, even more than the racing itself,” he says. “Though the racing is bloody intense, too.”
Gran Turismo It will also feature talents such as David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, and Garry Horner in supporting roles. It’s set for a theatrical release on August 11, 2023, so it’s within reach. Are you excited to see it? Grab some popcorn in the comments section below.
