Indie Not on PlayStation Beats PS5, PS4’s BAFTA’s Biggest Hit Game of the Year
A little indie game called Vampire Survivors (not even available on PlayStation platforms, mind you) beat both God of War Ragnarok and Alden Ring to win the BAFTA Award for Best Game. Can you believe it?!
Joking aside, Vampire Survivors was a phenomenon in 2022, and you’d have to be under a rock (or offline) to miss it, flying from obscurity and becoming an industry darling in the process. Beneath a deceptively simple veneer is a brutally addictive core gameplay loop that developer Luca Galante, AKA Ponkal, received another accolade, this time taking home the top award for game design, to boot.
As of today, there is no news regarding the smash hit coming to PlayStation, indicating that there is likely some kind of exclusive agreement or something preventing it from doing so. Maybe we’ll get to it someday, but in the meantime, console yourself with another prestige experience on our platform of choice, like The Last of Us, which won itself. The best game back in 2014.
In somewhat related news, PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida was awarded a BAFTA Fellowship, the organization’s highest honor.
What do you think of the Vampire Survivors win: well-deserved or completely disgusting? Cast your vote in the comments section below.
