It’s that time of year again! The countdown to MLB The Show 23 on PS5, PS4 begins

You can set your watch to the next MLB The Show game, and alarmingly it’s that time of year already! The San Diego studio has begun teasing the next title in its annual baseball simulation series, ahead of its release later this year. The cover athlete will be unveiled on January 30, 2023, with Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez currently looking like the most likely candidate.

With spring training set to begin in a few weeks for most major teams, and the season opener scheduled for March 30, 2023, we’d expect games to begin the first week of April. It will be especially interesting to see if the release is pushed out once again Xbox Game PassForcing PlayStation players to stump up the full asking price for the third year in a row.

It will also be interesting to see if PC is included as an additional platform this season. MLB The Show 21 added Xbox consoles to the release roster last year, with the addition of the Nintendo Switch. But there’s clearly a huge untapped market on PC, and with Sony bringing so many of its major first-party titles to the likes of Steam, we’d be surprised if it wasn’t added to the mix.

While the series is consistently excellent, we can’t shake the feeling that things have been stalling just a touch in recent years. Hopefully the new-gen platforms will get a much-needed visual makeover in 2023, and we’re also looking forward to seeing Road to the Show get some overdue TLC after a few bum years for the all-important single player mode. But first, he reveals the cover!
