Japan sales chart: PS5 sales drop sharply but still on top, just

PS5 console sales are in their second week in Japan, but the system still shifted enough units to be named the country’s best-selling box last week. During the week starting 13 March 2023, 34,156 PS5 Disc consoles were sold while 6,255 PS5 Digital Editions were purchased. The PS5’s closest rival was the Nintendo Switch OLED, which it outsold by exactly 1,004 units.

When the two PS5 system variants are combined, Sony sold 40,381 consoles last week. Compared to a week ago – where it came in just shy of 65,000 units – this is a clear downward trend as the total was lower than the previous one. It does not seem to have been killed by the new wave of Japan PS5 stock issues, but with sales down at the moment, it might be a bit harder to find one now than it has been in recent months.

On the software side, the only game to make the top 10 that isn’t a Nintendo Switch version is Hogwarts Legacy. In addition to this Return to Kirby’s Dream Land Deluxe Takes first place and Bayonetta spin-off Cereza and the Lost Demon Debuts in sixth. Common titles like Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Minecraft were other top sellers last week. The latest sales data is provided by Famitsu and is viewable below.
