We can’t help but eat like any new dragon: Ishin! Information as soon as we can get it. Recently, fans got a chance to get their hands on the title and give their impressions at Twitchcon. Now a full interview with producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto has been released from the event, discussing the setting, story and upgraded battle system.

During the seven-minute discussion, we learn that including time spent tinkering with the original Engine 4, Like a Dragon: Ishin! It’s been in full development for about a year and a half, which is a remarkably short turnaround for something on this scale.

RGG Studios abandoned their proprietary Dragon engine for this project, as it apparently wasn’t good at rendering daytime scenes. There’s no such problem in the dark back streets of Kamarocho, but a different one when your story takes place in the formerly sunny capital of Heian-kyo, or modern Kyoto.

Sakamoto confirms that content present in the original 2014 release will appear in the 2023 remake in the form of alternate sub-stories, an updated soundtrack, all-new combat skills, and most importantly, additional karaoke songs. You will also be able to customize your look with the latest Edo style.

Are you waiting for a dragon like: Isshin! As much as we are? What do you think about returning to a more historical setting? Let us know in the comments section below.
