In case you somehow missed it, GTA 6 was leaked to the general public with around 90 video clips of early, mid-development footage. There was some question about whether this was the real deal or an elaborate hoax, but Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has confirmed that it is legitimate:
Citing “Rockstar sources”, Schrier said it was “one of the biggest leaks in video game history”. The take two has forced YouTube videos offline, but clearly the damage has already been done.
The whole situation has created quite a stir among enthusiasts and people associated with the industry. Ultimately, it boils down to how damaging leaks like this can be. Some fans look at this footage of an incomplete game and assume that this is what the final game will look like, which of course is ridiculous. For the people making GTA 6, this would be a huge blow, not least because it would damage the image of the studio and the game before it was even official. We’ve seen Rockstar employees being harassed about the leak on social media.
Developers are showing solidarity with Rockstar as this happens, offering words of sympathy as well as explaining why the leaks are bad:
Of course there are many, many more comments about GTA 6 leaks that you should look around. What are your thoughts on this whole situation? Are you against leaks or does it not really bother you? Discuss (well, now) in the comments section below.
