Media Anu to stop live service for dreams, is now working on a new project

After just three years of support, developer Media Molecule has announced its plans to discontinue updates for Dreams. Announcing the news on The official website of the gameThe studio states that, after September 1, 2023, it will no longer release updates or in-game events as it looks to move on to a new project.

Importantly, the game will still be around. It’s not going offline – you’ll be able to continue playing and creating as normal – but the media molecule is automatically moving away and onto something new. The team says it is “immensely proud” of Dreams and what it has achieved so far, and is “endlessly grateful to the community for their faith and continued contributions”. It calls the game and the community “one of the best things we’ve ever done”.

The media is not completely finished with the molecular game, however. It plans to release another original game — Tren — as well as some animation updates and a final update to Create mode. All this is coming before September.

In related news, the game is undergoing a major server migration soon. It’s scheduled for late May, and brings with it some significant changes to how certain aspects of Dreams’ online functions are handled. check out Full post For more information.

It’s a shame, but unfortunately, there was an inevitability. The game, as great as it is, could never gather a large enough player base to push things forward. The game’s fans are incredibly creative and loyal, though, so we imagine there will be plenty of exciting new creations long after September.

As Media Molecule explains in its FAQ, some features and updates that were once expected will no longer be available. We won’t get a PS5 version (and, thus, no PSVR2 support), online multiplayer, or 3D printing, all of which were presumably on the table at one point.
