Media Molecule is releasing a brand new game tomorrow in Dreams

For those of you waiting for Media Molecule to make its next game, know that the studio has started releasing small-scale projects within Dreams. Labeled Mm Originals, the team has already brought us a new game or two since the creation suite arrived, including Dream of art, the first day’s adventure title. As it happens, Media Molecule’s latest effort is coming out tomorrow, March 29, 2023.

It’s called A Long Climb Ago, and you can watch a full explanation and demo in the livestream archive above. Basically, it’s a combination of falling block puzzles and side-scrolling platformers, which lends itself to a charming, storybook aesthetic. Playing as a noble medieval knight, your task is to reach the top of a large castle to prevent a catastrophe.

In each level, you switch controls between dropping blocks to create a path or to clear an obstacle, and then switch back to your character to cross what you’ve created. It’s a new idea, and of course, it’s presented with the simple intelligence and charm of Media Molecule, with a stunning visual flair that ties it all together.

The last MM in Dreams was the original Ancient Menace: A Bat’s Tale, a dungeon crawler playable in co-op. We also know about Tren, an impressive looking simulator about a wooden train set. There’s no word on when it’s slated to release, but it’s safe to say that the developer is moving forward with original projects for the time being.
