Mortal Kombat 1 Will Bury Crypt System For Unlocks, Altered Teases For PS5 Release

In recent history, Mortal Kombat has excelled at enhancing the traditional fighting game experience. A key part of this over the past several releases has been the Crypt, an area where you’re able to spend in-game currency on alternate outfits, outfit colors, artwork, and more. But despite being hugely popular with fans, series big wig Ed Boone has teased that his team is creating something different for Mortal Kombat 1.

“We have a whole new system [for unlocks]He said PS blog. “I can tell you this is not a crypt. But we have a whole new system for unlocking. “

It will be interesting to see what is cooked. In the most recent Mortal Kombat 11, the Crypt was a fully explorable 3D space with a map that you were able to navigate through to open chests. But, while slightly different in concept, the recently released Street Fighter 6’s RPG-style World Tour mode has really expanded our horizons of what’s possible here. It would be nice to see something like this in more depth.

We’re also secretly hoping that some of the minigames from previous titles make a return. While we hope Netherrealm’s focus will be on core combat, we wouldn’t say no to a spot of Motor Combat or Puzzle Combat, would you?
