The Chinese company NetEase has announced that it will acquire Quantic Dream, the developer behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human.

Holding a minority stake, NetEase will fully own the studio when the contract expires. Quantic Dream will retain its development independence, and will be the company’s first European studio as it continues to grow. The value of the acquisition is unknown.

David Cage studio is working on Star Wars Eclipse, and is set to publish the underwater exploration game under the waves. NetEase’s CEO said “our creative freedom and the drive and passion of our diverse team are important”, saying the deal will allow QD to “accelerate the knowledge we share.” as a team, to create national titles that touch people on an emotional level.”
