New mods, playable characters, more are coming for Sonic Frontiers in 2023 for free

SEGA has announced what looks to be an extensive slate of post-launch updates for Sonic Frontiers. The game, which was released a few weeks ago, will receive significant new content throughout 2023, and it will all be free.

Three major updates are set to arrive next year, each bringing new modes and features to the divisive open zone platformer. You can see for yourself what’s in store with this graphic:

The first update is set to add a jukebox, which lets you listen to all the game’s music, a photo mode for some custom snapshots, and “new challenge modes”. After that, we’ll get an in-game event for Sonic’s birthday, an “open zone challenge” and a new Coco. Finally, the third update seems to be the biggest; This is adding new playable characters to the game in addition to the “new story”.

Presumably, additional playable characters will be Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, though details on any of these post-launch updates are slim. That said, it’s encouraging that Sonic Team is going the extra mile for Frontiers. Some of these new additions would be very welcome.
