PlayStation has hit back at the ‘inadequate’ Call of Duty offering from Microsoft
Wow! It is as a matter of fact Freakin’ spicy, to say the least! Earlier this week, Microsoft bigwig Phil Spencer publicly revealed that his company had awarded Sony a “signature agreement” that would guarantee Call of Duty will be on PlayStation consoles for “many more years.” Activision will continue beyond the Japanese giant’s current marketing arrangement with Blizzard.
It was, at the time, believed to have been signed by the PlayStation maker – but Sony suit Jim Ryan has hit back, describing the offer as “inadequate”. In a popcorn-inspired statement sent to Sports Industry.BizThe executive explained that he “did not intend to comment on what I perceived to be a private business discussion” but that he felt “the record needed to be set straight because Phil Spencer brought it into a public forum”.
He said: “Microsoft has only offered Call of Duty to stay on PlayStation for three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony expires. After nearly 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their proposal was inadequate on many levels and failed to take into account the impact on us gamers. We want to guarantee that PlayStation gamers continue to have a high-quality Call of Duty experience, and Microsoft’s proposal undermines that principle.
Microsoft is currently trying to convince regulators that it should be allowed to follow through with its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and a major sticking point for some governments — including the UK — appears to be whether the future What is the call in Of Duty Franchise. It seems that this story still has legs.
