PlayStation says Activision Blizzard should just stay independent
Sony and Microsoft are publicly embarrassing themselves to extreme levels, which perhaps shows just how much is on the line with Xbox’s proposed nearly $70 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Platform holders bickered, back-talked, and are One step away from arranging an interview With Piers Morgan. They have completely undermined their products in an attempt to get what they want!
As part of A Huge 20 page document Submitted to the UK government, Sony has painstakingly detailed why it believes the acquisition should be blocked. But its summary is perhaps the most powerful paragraph, as the platform holder claims the purchase “threatens the gaming ecosystem at a critical moment”.
Here’s the full quote, with its advocates laying everything out on the line: “[The acquisition] An irresistible gaming franchise, Call of Duty, will take independent hands and integrate it with Microsoft’s highly-successful gaming system (Xbox), leading multi-game subscription service (Game Pass), dominant PC OS (Windows), and leading cloud. will add Platform (Azure). The only way to preserve strong competition and protect consumers and independent developers is to ensure that Activision remains independently owned and controlled.
