A generation of people grew up on a healthy diet of DOOM, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Unreal Tournament. Some of them are in the industry now, and are drawing on memories of the late 90s to create vintage first-person shooters with modern sensibilities. These so-called boomer shooters are all the rage right now, and the Prodius looks like an excellent example.
The game leaves early access in just a few days, with its 1.0 launch on September 23, 2022, and is confirmed for both PS5 and PS4. Developed by Bounding Box Software, featuring impressive FPS games on their CVs, Produce is a robust title with a campaign you can play solo or in four-player co-op, as well as competitive Multiplayer too. Modes include 16-player deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and more.
Additionally, the game features a full-on level editor to allow players to create their own maps and modes. With a cross-platform map browser, you’ll have no shortage of new challenges to tackle.
We’re probably most excited for a modern take on old-school arena multiplayer, but it all looks great. The pixelated style combines with the 3D models for a very impressive style, and the gunplay looks suitably chunky. It’s only been out for a few days — are you excited for Prodius?
