PS5, PS4 arcade racer LEGO 2K Drive is great, and it’s out soon
The LEGO 2K Drive is doomed to a lifetime of leaks, as it seems IGN accidentally hit Accelerate on the game’s announcement article, 24 hours before its intended publication. This follows a series of leaks earlier in the week, which forced the Danish toymaker to come out and confirm the project’s existence.
The good news is that the game sounds great. Due out on May 19 for PS5 and PS4, it’s being billed as a “AAA driving adventure game,” with award-winning NBA 2K developer Visual Concepts at the helm. The screenshots scream Forza HorizonBut obviously the big twist here is that there will be a complete customization system, allowing you to build vehicles with over 1,000 different LEGO bricks.
There will also be licensed cars at launch, such as the McLaren Solus GT, and the title will be supported post-release with Drive Pass. It will span four seasons post-release, each with new vehicles and themes. You’ll get automatic access to it as part of Awesome Edition ($99.99) and Awesome Rivals Edition ($119.99). These will be your other purchase options at launch:
- Standard Edition ($69.99 on PS5, $59.99 on PS4)
- Excellent edition ($99.99): Includes a new vehicle, vehicle character, in-game minifigure, and Year 1 Drive Pass
- Excellent counter edition ($119.99): Includes multiple vehicles, a vehicle flare, multiple in-game minifigures, and Year 1 Drive Pass
Pre-orders will also come with the Aquadirt Racer Pack, which includes a new street car, off-road car, and racer boat. And yes, it will be a multi-discipline racer, with single player and online multiplayer options as well as local split-screen. Obviously, we still need to wait for the full reveal, but it’s shaping up to be fantastic in our opinion.
