These figures are getting a bit similar, but the new data underscores the impressive rise of the PS5’s dominance. Major European countries such as France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and Portugal saw a 369 percent increase in console sales during the first quarter of 2023. This is higher than the 180 per cent increase seen in the UK over the same period.

Obviously these numbers are affected by how limited the console’s supply was 12 months ago, but Sony has set some pretty aggressive sales targets for its new-gen system, and it looks like it’s paying them off. going to finish This is especially surprising when you consider that in the same European countries, both the Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch saw significant year-over-year declines. In fact, the PS5 single-handedly drove the hardware market to 67 percent growth.

Software sales for the same period slipped, however, despite the success of Hogwarts Legacy, which has been the fastest-selling game in the aforementioned territories since records began in 2017 — excluding, of course, the FIFA franchise. PS5 accessories also continue to sell well, with the DualSense controller leading the market, and capping a very restrained start to the year for Sony.
