Rumor: Sonic Origins Plus Coming to PS5, PS4 in June Amy, Game Gear Titles

When Sonic Origins released last year, it was a massively successful retro package that collected mainline games from the Hedgehog’s heyday. However, it faced some criticism; The quality of the emulation was held to high scrutiny, the stingy add-on DLC was a bit much, and some felt it lacked content in general. Rumor has it, however, that SEGA aims to make the game more appealing with Sonic Origins Plus, a relaunch of the collection with tons of content.

Last month, a listing was spotted on the Korean Rating Board’s website, confirming the title’s existence. Fast-forward to today, and a now-deleted report appears to have revealed all the information about the project. Apparently, Sonic Origins Plus will include the following in the base game:

  • 12 Game Gear games playable in the museum
  • Classic Amy as a playable character in all the main games
  • Knuckles as a playable character in Sonic CD
  • All current DLC

On top of all that, a physical version of the game will include a 20-page artbook and a reverse sleeve with exclusive artwork. Finally, the report claims that Sonic Origins Plus will launch on June 23, 2023, when you can purchase either the physical version, the digital version, or a $10 upgrade fee if you already own the original release.

It all seems quite legitimate to us – it seems as though the report was published earlier than planned. As a renewed package, it sounds pretty good to us; We just have to hope that the Game Gear emulator can hold it together.
