This is one way to make anyone over 30 feel old. This year, Spyro the Dragon will celebrate its 25th anniversary since debuting on the original PlayStation. The little purple dragon has had some ups and downs during that time, bouncing back to PS4 with the Reignited trilogy, but fans are patiently waiting to see what’s next. Given the special occasion, is 2023 the year Spyro returns?
Well, a social post from developer Toys for Bob has certainly got some people talking. As reported by Insider Gaming, the studio shared an inspirational commentary and a collage of images to usher in the new year. In photos of the team and a few other projects, Spyro is far away in the upper-left corner, with binary code in the background, with the text “25th”:
It may be nothing, but at the very least, Toys for Bob is here recognizing the anniversary of the dragon. We can’t imagine the year will go by without some kind of recognition; Whether it adds a new game is another question. Some fans believe that the binary behind Spyro may point to something, especially since different parts of the code appear on different social sites.
We’d love to see the little guy get his proper sequel, something similar to Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s about time. With the 25th anniversary only about nine months away, we’ll just have to wait and see. what do you think? Is this a tease at a new Spyro project, or are fans reaching a little too far?
