Hogwarts Legacy’s February 10th release date is right around the corner, and as the deadline approaches, we learn more about the many mysteries in store for us. Like any good RPG, expect to spend a significant amount of time off the beaten path, engaging in side quests that, at least on paper, seem like they might have more impact than expected.
Talking to GamesRadar+Moira Squire, narrative director on Hogwarts Legacy, discussed the ways in which side quests can influence the main story, noting that “by giving the player moments of choice throughout the game, we give them that Allow me to tell my version of the epic story.”
When you pull the central narrative threads at the heart of Hogwarts Legacy, decisions made during extracurricular activities “will manipulate the main campaign based on their experiences,” Squire says. Additionally, “interacting with someone in a side quest will affect how you interact with them in the main story – and vice versa.”
Most exciting of all, it seems that these various side quests can be included at will and not placed behind the main story progression, as is often the case in other RPGs. Square explains that “the order in which the player chooses to complete these quests will affect their story and gameplay. Everything is interconnected. So, while it was challenging, it was fun to do, and It’s rewarding to see how well it turns out.”
