Sony acquires Firewalk Studios, the new team behind the innovative multiplayer IP
one in PS blog Post, bigwig Hermann Hulst said that Sony was “impressed” by the team’s ambitions to create a modern multiplayer game that engages players in new and innovative ways. He added: “The studio is committed to creating inspiring worlds grounded in exceptional gameplay. shares our passion, and we want to continue to invest in their mission. We’re excited for Firewalk Studios to bring our technical and creative expertise to PS Studios to help grow our live service operations. And to offer something truly special for gamers.
The studio is led by Tony Hsu and Ryan Ellis, who released the following statement: “Five years ago, we jumped at the opportunity to establish a new studio and build a new IP from the ground up. Remembering our favorite times with games, we founded Firewalk Studio around the idea of delivering memorable moments – those amazing, what-if moments shared with other people. Our goal is to provide shared moments of joy to players around the world. “
They continued: “We’ve assembled some of the most inspired talent in the industry to deliver new worlds and experiences packed with incredible core gameplay. The excitement for players to do something new has fueled the team and our partners well, and we are play testing every day.
“Today we are taking the next natural step and joining PS Studios. We’ve worked closely with Harman and the incredibly talented team at PlayStation for years, helping to make our new game even better. Joining PS Studios is formally becoming part of a family that has produced many of the storied games of our age, and we are honored.
It’s probably safe to assume that whatever game Firewalk Studios is working on, it’s doing pretty well behind the scenes. You may recall that Sony acquired Jed Raymond’s Studio Haven after being impressed with its work. We just need some actual game announcements to come along with these purchases…
