Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 5 will feature combat stances, including a blaster

We are all very excited for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor here push square. The first game, Fallen Order, has its flaws, but it’s a very fun action game with well-realized lightsaber combat. The sequel will obviously build on the solid foundation laid with the original, and that means expanding the combat system to give players many more options.

In a new video from IGN, Respawn’s Stig Asmussen and Jason de Heras talk about building the first game’s two stands with three more, giving players five different ways to engage enemies.

Of course, the classic single-blade stand remains intact, and is essentially the all-rounder of Cal’s movesets. You can continue to go all Darth Maul with the Double-Blade Saber, which is best for crowd control but has longer offensive winds to compensate.

Twin Blade is one of the new stands, allowing Cal to dual-wield lightsabers. This is described as a glass cannon stance; You’ll take more damage, but your attacks are faster and you have access to more combos. It is also the only stance that allows you to cancel your own attack animations to block or dodge.

The other two new stands are called Cross Guard and Blaster. The Cross Guard Stand essentially transforms Cal’s lightsaber into a heavy greatsword-type weapon, featuring a hilt and providing the strongest attacks at the expense of speed. Finally, the blaster stance sees the character wield a single-bladed saber alongside a weapon, giving you more limited options while keeping things rooted in combat.

It all sounds good to us — we can’t wait to try out all these new technologies ourselves. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on PS5 on April 28, 2023. What do you think of these improvements to combat? Let us know in the comments section below.
