The core members of Firaxis departed in a major studio overhaul
Both Marvel’s Midnight Sons and Xcom director Jake Solomon and studio head Steve Martin have announced that they will be leaving Firakis as the studio undergoes an overhaul. The shakeup promoted Heather Hazen to studio head, joining the developer in 2020. All this was revealed in a 2K press release, a new Civilization game is also now in development and support for Marvel’s Midnight Suns will continue post-launch.
on the Twitter, Jake Solomon posted that he’s off to pursue a new dream because he feels “more, smarter people” can continue to advance the strategic turn-based genre. “I’m grateful to my Firaxis teammates, past and present, for making dreams come true. True love and gratitude. We’ve done some really cool things together. I thank 2K for always believing in dreams, and always supporting us. Thank you. With the time and resources needed to bring them to life.”
Along with a new Civilization title, Firaxis also has Marvel’s Midnight Suns DLC in the works. An expansion has already been released, and two more content drops from the Season Pass are planned, along with a Venom-focused pack announced for next week. It is not known if there will be any further DLC.
Upon her promotion to studio head, Heather Hazen said she was thrilled to carry on Firaxis’ legacy. “I’m fortunate to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world. Additionally, we look forward to bringing Marvel’s Midnight Will continue to support. Be with post-launch content, and explore new creative projects for our teams.”
