The Final Fantasy 9 remake may be real, but recent leaks aren’t
Spotted in an Nvidia leak in 2019, it looks like Square Enix is indeed preparing a remake of the PS1 classic Final Fantasy IX. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb backed up the claim after receiving assurances that the project was still happening as of last month, but over the weekend, it seems the report has taken on a life of its own. something Outlets have sprung on the rumor to state that the remake will use an “ATB turn-based system”. The issue is that Grubb never said it.
one with tweetHe clarifies: “I haven’t talked about FF9 in weeks, but these rumors keep bouncing back and forth between blogs and Twitter and YouTube as if I’ve said something new or different. I’ve said that for sure. That of course is real.”
Along with the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, it still looks like Square Enix has plenty of games it plans to bring back with the large-scale Final Fantasy VII remake project. In fact, at a recent shareholders meeting, it was said that Square Enix is ”considering various ideas within the company” when it comes to more remasters and remakes.
The Nvidia leak also shared word on Kingdom Hearts 4, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Taken 8, The Talos Principle 2, and Helldivers 2. None of these games were announced at the time, but are gone. To be a very original project. When do you think we’ll see this Final Fantasy IX remake project? Post a prediction in the comments below.
