The future looks bright for Destiny 2, Lightfall and beyond
Destiny 2’s next expansion, Lightfall, will launch on February 28 and introduce the first of several major new changes coming to the now-venerable service game. Game director Joe Blackburn explained what’s to come in a 5000-word blog post. Lightfall and the year ahead.
Starting with Lightfall, Destiny 2 is going to be tougher, with enemies hitting harder and player abilities taking longer to come out of the cold, with the idea of making things feel more dangerous and more. To encourage cooperation.
Changes are also coming to the power level system, with the cap remaining fixed in the next Season of the Deep and possibly being removed entirely in 2024. Blackburn explains that “We feel like Destiny 2 has some big issues with power and how it prevents players from seeing our best content, so we’re looking to make a big change to the system in The Final Shape.“. Finale will be the last expansion in the current Light and Darkness saga, essentially setting the stage for whatever comes next.
Season of Defense begins with Lightfall, and will eliminate Umbrals and Umbral Energis, introduce fewer but better seasonal vendor upgrades, tougher Vanguard Ops, and new Crucible game modes Countdown, Countdown Rush, and Checkmate Control.
The entire blog post is well worth a read, in addition to what to look out for, it goes into the thought processes that lead to these changes, with player feedback important to each decision.
