The God of War TV series will remain ‘true to the source material’
Last week, it was made official that Sony’s ever-popular God of War series would be adapted for TV. Amazon Prime Video ordered a live-action series, and while it’s still early days, there’s already some solid talent on board. Perhaps more importantly, the people involved are saying the right things.
Amazon Studios’ head of television, Vernon Sanders, was asked Collider What was so appealing about the show, and about the games. Sanders describes the company’s history with adaptations such as invincible And boyBut explains that they’re looking for meaningful narratives: “…the thing we’re always looking for is if there’s a real emotional core, if there’s a real narrative story, and I think [that’s] part of what makes God of War so special,” he says.
“At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons and families, set against this vast epic landscape,” he continues. Sanders describes the work of writers Mark Fergus and Hock Ostby, as well as showrunner Rafe Judkins, as “incredibly true to the source material, and compelling on its own”.
The show is set to follow in the footsteps of 2018’s God of War, exploring the story of Kratos and Atreus in the realm of Norse mythology. That game’s director, Corey Barlog, is on board as an executive producer, so there’s at least some representation from the Santa Monica studio.
It all sounds good to us — let’s hope it lives up to the Games. Are you excited to watch the God of War TV show? Let us know in the comments section below.
