The Last of Us 2 will be split into two or more seasons for the TV adaptation
The Last of Us’ HBO adaptation has just wrapped, with the final episode of the acclaimed first season having just aired. It’s been warmly received, and with viewing figures consistently high, it didn’t take long for season two to get the green light. However, it looks like it will take more than one season to cover the events of The Last of Us: Part II.
With the first season covering the entire story of the first game extensively, the video game sequel is next to be adapted for TV. However, with the larger scope of Part II, it will be split into two seasons, or possibly more.
one in GQ interview, Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin were asked if the second season would cover Part II. “No. No way,” Mazin replies. “It’s more than one season,” adds Druckman.
He elaborates, talking about what he’s excited about as they head into the sequel: “Some of the things I’m most excited about [in Part 2] Those are the changes we discussed and seeing the story come back to life in this second edition. And I think that’s exciting because it leans into the emotions that you get from the game, really a lot, in a new way.”
So, although a third season has not yet been formally confirmed, it seems that this is very much the plan. Given how successful the first season has been, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise to hear that it’s sticking around, and Part II might have a little more breathing room with at least twice as many episodes to play with. is
