The PS5 recorded another good week of sales in Japan, selling 2.5 million since launch
as the PS5 stock While the situation had little effect on consumers’ ability to purchase the system, sales of the console continued to grow in Sony’s home country of Japan. It has now topped the region’s hardware sales charts for five consecutive weeks, with this latest round of purchases meaning more than 2.5 million consoles have been sold since launch. This is only counting the disk version; The digital edition is included and Sony is closing in on three million sales.
From 13 February 2023 to 19, 75,518 PS5 systems were sold to buyers in Japan. That’s nearly three times the amount of sales brought in by the country’s second best-selling console of the week — the Nintendo Switch OLED at 29,457. When you group the two families of systems together (PS5 disc version + digital edition and Nintendo Switch OLED + standard Switch + Switch Lite), Sony sold a total of 88,833 units while Nintendo distributed 48,896 Switch systems. Again, we’re talking about twice the total of its closest competitor.
Speaking of games, Hogwarts Legacy once again topped the charts with 36,958 copies sold. New titles in the top 10 include Wild Hearts and Tales of Symphonia Remastered, which come in second and eighth respectively when Sony consoles are taken into account. The Bandai Namco remaster sold best in Japan on the Nintendo Switch.
