Saints Row Studio Volition will now be led by Gearbox Software, Embracer Group has announced. This is because the game “did not live up to full expectations and left fans partially polarized”. As the studio works to improve the open world title — something that has already begun with this month’s update — it will become part of the Borderlands team to build “future success.”
Despite divided opinion among fans, Saints Row “performed in line with management expectations in the quarter”, posting 35 per cent growth in “organic growth”. “This is the first internal group transfer where we transfer a major studio between operative groups, but it won’t necessarily be the last,” the company says.
Recently, the Embracer group has also closed Hitman G.O A few weeks after developer Square Enix Montreal rebranded it to Onoma. Embracer Group has claimed that it wants to focus on console and PC experiences going forward, and with Onoma being primarily a mobile studio, that was cut.
